TRANSFORM – The magazine for gender-responsive evaluation – Issue 26, February 2024

Produced by the Independent Evaluation Service (IES) of the Independent Evaluation and Audit Services, “TRANSFORM – The magazine for gender-responsive evaluation” features UN Women corporate evaluations and meta-syntheses, along with issues specifically dedicated to gender-responsive evaluation. UN Women regularly evaluates its own work to enhance accountability, inform decision-making, and contribute to learning on gender equality. TRANSFORM uses data visualization and concise evaluation recommendations to highlight good practices and lessons learned on what works for gender equality for transformative change.

This issue of TRANSFORM features a recent “Meta-synthesis of UN Women evaluations on advocacy and communications”. Since the inception of UN Women, its advocacy and communications work has grown exponentially, driven by the need to produce relevant content, enhance media outreach and collaboration, and develop new media and communications partnerships. To contribute to UN Women’s knowledge base and learning on the Entity’s advocacy and communications work, the IES conducted a meta-synthesis of UN Women evaluation evidence related to advocacy and communications.

Focusing on awareness-raising, campaigns, and social mobilization in the context of implementing UN Women’s Strategic Plans for 2018‒2021 and 2022‒2025, this meta-synthesis outlines key results, trends, enabling factors, impediments, and lessons learned and provides the ways forward that emerged as opportunities to further strengthen UN Women’s capacities in advocacy and communications as the global voice and advocate for gender equality and women’s empowerment.
