Generation Equality accountability report 2023: Action Coalition on Economic Justice and Rights

This publication is the latest thematic report of the “Generation Equality accountability report 2023” that further investigates the progress made by the Economic Justice and Rights Action Coalition as part of Generation Equality.

As we approach the deadline for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), notably Goal 5 on gender equality, remains distant. Women continue to lack equal economic rights and opportunities, despite their significant economic contributions. Structural and systemic barriers persist, limiting women’s full participation in the economy. Women worldwide face greater food insecurity than men, and a significant portion of the global population lacks social protection benefits.

Launched in 2021 in Mexico City and Paris, Generation Equality is the world’s leading effort to unlock political will and accelerate investment and implementation on gender equality. It brings together organizations from every part of society—through intergenerational, multistakeholder alliances—to catalyse progress, advocate for change, and take bold actions together to deliver concrete, game-changing results for girls and women. The Economic Justice and Rights Action Coalition is working to strengthen and uplift economic status of women to guarantee economic justice and rights for women and girls in all their diversity by 2026.

At the 68th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, this report presents the latest evidence on the implementation of economic justice and rights commitments. The report demonstrates, through compelling evidence, that stakeholders are mobilizing new resources and are delivering game-changing results.
