La Directrice exécutive d'ONU Femmes appelle à mettre en œuvre des politiques énergiques pour autonomiser les femmes rurales et garantir le respect de leurs droits

Directrice exécutive d'ONU Femmes Michelle BacheletA l'occasion de la 56ème session de la Commission de la condition de la femme, la Directrice exécutive d'ONU Femmes, Michelle Bachelet, lancera un appel en faveur d'une initiative mondiale majeure pour éliminer les obstacles et mettre fin à la discrimination auxquels sont confrontés les femmes et les filles rurales, qui constituent un quart de la population mondiale. Lors de la session d'ouverture, mais aussi au cours des dizaines de manifestations officielles et parallèles prévues pendant la Commission, Mme Bachelet appellera à mettre en œuvre des politiques plus solides et énergiques en vue d'autonomiser les femmes et les filles rurales, pour que leur voix soit entendue et qu'elles puissent exprimer leur plein potentiel - de l'élimination des lois discriminatoires jusqu'à l'accès égal à l'éducation, aux soins de santé, à la terre, aux finances, aux infrastructures, aux marchés et à la technologie. Elle appellera à prendre des mesures en vue d'étendre leur participation à la prise de décisions et d'améliorer leur accès aux opportunités économiques.

Les femmes et les filles rurales jouent un rôle crucial dans le secteur de l'agriculture, et ont été durement frappées par la crise économique et financière, la volatilité des prix alimentaires notamment l'agriculture basée sur les exportations. L'élimination de ces obstacles contribuera à mettre un terme à la faim et la pauvreté et à promouvoir le développement durable. Mme Bachelet exhortera les Etats membres, la société civile, le secteur privé et tous les partenaires du développement à joindre leurs forces en vue de garantir le respect des droits des femmes rurales à vivre libérées de toute violence et discrimination.

Mme Bachelet participera le 27 février à une série de manifestations et prononcera une déclaration d'introduction lors de la session d'ouverture de la Commission de la condition de la femme et lancera un nouvel appel à propositions en faveur du Fonds pour l'égalité des sexes. Enfin, elle s'exprimera lors de la manifestation consacrée aux femmes rurales, aux changements climatiques et à l'accès à l'énergie, co-organisée par ONU Femmes et la « Fondation Mary Robinson-Climate Justice ». Entre autres interventions, elle s'exprimera le 28 février sur l'accélération des progrès en faveur de l'autonomisation des femmes rurales aux côtés de l'Organisation des Nations Unies pour l'agriculture et l'alimentation (FAO), le Fonds international pour le développement agricole (FIDA) et le Programme alimentaire mondial (PAM) ; et soulignera le besoin de promouvoir des changements structurels et politiques, et de travailler avec les garçons et les hommes, à l'occasion d'une manifestation organisée avec les ministres nordiques ; puis elle abordera le 1ermars l'importance d'autonomiser les filles adolescentes rurales lors d'une manifestation qui se tiendra en partenariat avec le Fonds des Nations Unies pour l'enfance (UNICEF).

Mme Bachelet rencontrera également de nombreux partenaires de la société civile, y compris lors d'une réunion le 29 février intitulée « Les femmes rurales prennent la parole » et organisée par le Forum ONG-CSW, ONU Femmes, la FAO et les principales organisations de la société civile. Une conférence de presse est prévue le 2 mars pour le lancement de la Carte 2012 des femmes en politique en présence de l'Union interparlementaire.
